President John Mahama has made donations to flood victims at Nima here in Accra with a call on the people to actively involve in cleaning exercises in their area.
Dozens were displaced and properties destroyed in the Accra suburb after last Wednesday’s downpour.
As city authorities find ways to prevent another flood disaster, president Mahama is appealing to residents to participate in the national sanitation exercise to ensure a clean environment.
He said residents should not wait for the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije, to come around to plead before they take part in their civic duties.
He said government will live up to its responsibility of constructing drains to prevent future flooding.
The items donated included truckload of mattresses and other relief items.
Hours of rain have brought pain and anguish to many in the capital.
More than a hundred of fifty Ghanaians lost their lives - many of through a fire incident at the Goil filling station near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Many of the victims were sheltering at the petrol station and nearby shops when leaked fuel caught fire leading to an explosion.
