The Member of Parliament for Bunkrugu in the Northern Region, Solomon Namliit Boar, wants government to lift the curfew imposed on a constituency.
The MP argues the Bimobas and Konkonbas – the two factions whose clashes instigated the imposition of the curfew - have not engaged in violence since 2013.
According to him the curfew is crippling business activities and stifling development in the area.
“Normalcy has returned. The Konkonbas have returned to Bimbale. They have reconciled [with the Bimobas]. They have done the blood burial, all the traditional rites have been performed. The people have taken all the necessary vows that never again will they fight. So the curfew in Nakpanduri between 10pm and 4am I consider it as needless and counter-productive”, he the Bunprugu Legislator said.
Following the death of two people in a chieftaincy clash in Bunkrugu the Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo, ordered for a curfew to be imposed on the area.
The Minister moved the curfew hours from 4pm to 6am to 10pm to 4am as a move to prevent people from hiding in the dark to attack others.
However, the MP says the situation has changed.
“I want to call on the Minister of Interior to liaise with us and as a matter of necessity and urgency, lift this curfew so that the people would live a life of dignity”, Mr Boar said.
In the last chieftaincy clash between the Jamong and the Jafog clans in April this year, about 20 houses were torched rendering hundreds homeless.
