Swansea City’s captain, Ashley Williams, has spoken about the importance of having a player like Ghana international Andre Ayew joining the club. 

The Swansea defender, who doubles as captain of the Welsh national team, said it is important that the club signed someone with goal scoring ability like Ayew to augment that of striker Bafe.

Williams went ahead to describe the signing as “big” in an interview with the BBC. 

Ayew, who won the U-20 World Cup in 2009, joined the Swans from French club Marseille earlier this month on a four year deal reported to be worth 5.7 million Euros. 

"It shows that the club is going in the right direction again," centre-back Williams said. "It's a big signing."

"We obviously needed some strikers because Bafe is on his own, so we'll definitely welcome him to the club," Williams added.

 

Meanwhile, in another interview, Andre’s brother Rahim Ayew has said, he believed Swansea was the best option as he they are a strong side and play the kind of football that fits into Andre’s style. 

“Swansea showed more interest and gave him all he demanded for. Which for him was very key,” Rahim told the media.

“They are a strong English side and play the kind of football that will suit him.

“It’s the best move for him at the moment and we will all have to throw our weight behind him.”

Swansea begins the next Premier League campaign on August 8 against defending champions, Chelsea.
