Zain Ghana has revamped the Child Protection Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to provide a safe environment for abused children.
Being the first of its kind in Ghana, the centre was established to provide the required emotional and psychological needs of children who have fallen victim to abuse and serves as an academic centre for post-graduate students of the Ghana College of Physicians as well as the West African College of Physicians.
The renovation of the unit included new security grilles, air conditioning, toilet facilities and needed equipments to facilitate the purpose for its establishment.
According to the Country Manager of Zain Ghana, Mr Philip Sowah, “health is an important focus of Zain’s CSR initiatives” in the country, thus their commitment to support the centre.
Expressing appreciation for the kind gesture, Dr Badoe, Director of Child Protection Services noted that “we are grateful to Zain and UNICEF for answering our call for help in establishing this centre”, adding that “children need a place to feel safe and cared for after suffering a terrible ordeal.”
He, however, admitted that reversing the psychological damage of abused children is a delicate process that requires specialist care.
In collaboration with UNICEF and the Department of Child Health Care, Zain supported the hospital.
