A member of the National Democratic Congress legal team is apportioning a 50-50 blame to the head of the Kokurantumi Presby JHS and wife of the Vice President in what has become the chalk controversy.
Abraham Amaliba said Mrs Juliet Oppong's request for chalk was misdirected because Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur was neither the District Director nor Regional Director of Education to make provision for chalks.
While the request was misdirected Amaliba believes the wife of the Vice President could have "risen above the tantrums and taken it cool."
Matilda Amissah Arthur grabbed the headlines this week when she scolded the headmistress of the Kokurantumi Presby School for asking her to facilitate the provision of chalk.
She had gone to present computers to the school and the headmistress used the opportunity to make another request.
“The elderly say if you want to communicate something to God, you say it to the wind, we are therefore requesting of you to tell government to try and come to our aide with these things which are in short supply in the school,” Juliet Oppong asked.
Her request was not taken kindly at all by the wife of the vice president.
“The headteacher has shocked me…she said you lack chalk and log books...I am very shocked that you are today asking me about chalk...how much is a box of chalk…I won’t give you chalk today, I won’t give you chalk tomorrow” Mrs Amissah Arthur responded.
Her reaction has received some amount of condemnation by the public.
On Joy FM's Newsfile programme Saturday, discussants largely believed Mrs Amissah Arthur should apologise for her conduct.
Abraham Amaliba was quick to dissociate government for the conduct of the second lady, saying, she is neither a public official nor recognised by the constitution.
He said if she so wishes she could apologise for her comments.
But MP for Obuasi West Kweku Kwarteng was unequivocal in his belief that the statements were unacceptable and the second lady must apologise.
He said the conduct of Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur was "irritating and annoying" and also "reflects the mood of government."
Editor of the Observer Newspaper Egbert Faibille Jnr also said the conduct of the second lady smacks of arrogance and disrespect which must not be tolerated.
He said the second lady must not only apologise to the headmistress but to the pupils of Kukurantumi in whose presence she made those comments.
