A British artist has recreated a bizarre series of food choices by genuine death row prisoners for their final meals. For his Last Suppers series, James Reynolds, 23, filled a number of orange prison-issue trays with some of the items offenders asked for.
One final meal consists of nothing but a single black olive; another contains an onion, a packet of chewing gum and two bottles of coke. While many inmates go for a last meal of KFC or McDonalds, one requested six raw eggs, a bread roll and a cup of coffee.Mr Reynolds, from London, got the idea for his collection from reading a book that listed American death row inmates' final meal choices. He then set about finding out more about each prisoner, including what crime they committed, where they were incarcerated and exactly what they asked for.He found they were allowed anything to eat so long as their last meal didn't add up to more than $40.Mr Reynolds, who works for an advertising agency, said: "I was fascinated by why they were chosen and by whom."It was Victor Feguer, put to death for murder in Iowa in 1963, who asked for the olive for his last meal. The onion was requested by Jackie Barron Wilson before he was executed in Texas, in 2006.Mr Reynolds added: "Victor Feguer asked for an unpitted olive because he thought it might grow into an olive tree from inside him."Source: Ananova.com
