Gilbert Nii Adjiri Barnor, a 30-year-old man, who is alleged to have raped and killed his wife before locking her body in their room, is wanted by the Odorkor Police.
The deceased, only known to residents as Emelia, 28, was found locked away in their wooden Odorkor official town residence. The body of the mother of three, which was lying face down and decomposing, also had marks of violence all over it.
She was wearing a pair of white trousers, with one of the legs of the trousers removed from the body, which suggests that she might have been raped before her demise.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim had been married to the suspect for about ten years.
The eyewitness disclosed that “due to marital problems, the lady packed her belongings and left the husband to live with a friend at Awoshie”.
The deceased was last seen in the area on Thursday, February 11, 2010 engaging in a fierce fight with her husband, but residents did not deem it fit to interfere, stated the eyewitness.
Other residents also noted that on Monday February 15, a bad odour was emanating from the room of Gilbert, also known as Dada, with his radio blaring.
“I thought the scent was from a dead mouse so we went to knock on Dada’s door to tell him to check for the source, but when we got there, the door was locked”.
The eyewitness stated that later in the day, the scent became unbearable and appeared stronger than that of a dead mouse.
They thus decided to peep through the window to figure out what was going on, and lo and behold, they saw the decomposing body of Emilia.
Meanwhile, according to Beatrice Gyamfi, a friend who took the deceased in after she left her husband, Emilia and her children joined her months ago due to prolonged marital problems.
She said on February 11, 2010, after the deceased returned from the husband’s house, she complained of neck pains but did not say if her husband fought with her or not.
“She told me on February 13, 2010 that her husband called her on phone, insisting that she comes over to collect some money for the children’s upkeep.”
Beatrice stated further that on Monday, February 15, she tried reaching Emelia’s husband on his phone to find out if he knew why she had left the children alone, but she could not get through to them because the device was switched off.
She said, “I followed up to the house but their door was locked and I returned home only to hear on Tuesday morning that Emelia had been killed by her husband in the room.”
When Daily Guide got to the scene around 9:00am, a joint police team from the Odorkor District Police Station and Crime Scene Investigators were at hand to collect the decomposing body.
The Odorkor District Police Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer Asare, indicated that his outfit received information that a woman had been killed by her husband at Odorkor Official Town which was within his jurisdiction.
He stated that a team from the police station and Crime Scene Investigators was sent to the scene to investigate.
Superintendent Asare revealed that there were vicious marks all over her body, and her positioning indicated that the assailant might have violently raped her before killing her.
He confirmed that the body of Emelia had been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy while the investigation continues, appealing to the public to help trace Gilbert Nii Adjiri Barnor, who is now at large.
