The family of the late Lydia Osei, one of the victims of the Sefwi Wiawso shooting incident, has petitioned the Inspectors General of Police (IGP), to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of their relative. On December 11, 2009, Lydia and one Kofi Nkrumah were shot dead, when the funeral rites of the Abontendomhene of Sefwi Wiawso, Nana Yaw Korankye were being performed. Lydia was shot while she stood in front of the offices of the Internal Revenue Service. On Friday, January 29, a three-man committee was inaugurated by the Regional Coordinating Council to probe the incident. This followed a petition filed by one Kwasi Adu, on behalf of the head of Nkrumah's family. The committee chaired by the presiding member of Sefwi Wiawso, Sagary Nokoe, was to unravel the mystery surrounding the shooting, identify the culprits and establish the motive behind the action and recommend a lasting solution to the chieftaincy dispute. It had up to February 12 to submit its report. The petition, signed by Stephen Anim, Lydia's brother, said since the incident occurred, the family had made persistent calls on the security agencies to investigate and identify the culprits. However, those pleas "have fallen on deaf ears". He said "the lukewarm attitude being exhibited by certain people over the case makes the family suspicious of some complicity and underground dealings", it stated. It appealed to the IGP, the Western Regional Police Commander and the Regional Coordinating Council to investigate the issue and bring the killers to book. The petition which was copied to the Western Regional Minister and the committee investigating the incident hoped that the case of Lydia would be thoroughly investigated. "We therefore appeal to your good office to ensure that, justice, fairness and total transparency prevail in this matter and the killers of our sister Lydia Osei brought to book." The Sefwi Wiawso area was plunged into a chieftaincy dispute in July 2005 when some divisional chiefs gave notice to the police that the Omanhene, Nana Nkuah Okumdom II, would be des tooled.
