The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested seven people following clashes between two communities in the Bolgatanga municipality. The two communities, Sorugu and Yikene, are said to have been fighting over a parcel of land, Regional Crime Officer ACP Edward Kabiri confirmed to Joy News on Monday. There were reports of violent clashes late last night, reports say. Although police officers were deployed to the scene, the fighters had fled, leaving a number of homes torched and several animals killed. At least three cattle and several sheep, goat and guinea fowl were slaughtered but there were no human casualties, police say. ACP Kabiri indicated that a team of security officers has been dispatched to the area to restore order. He said the latest clashes follow an earlier one in 2008 which resulted in a court case yet to be cleared. The crime officer urged the feuding factions to use the law rather than violence in securing their property. Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
