The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander is threatening legal action against the publisher of the Searchlight newspaper for defaming her.
Rose Bio-Atinga says a publication by the paper on Tuesday about a house she is building imputes corruption on her part.
The story alleges that the commander has completed a housing project worth several thousand Ghana cedis, less than a year on assuming office as a regional commander.
But Mrs Bio-Atinga denies this and says she rightfully acquired the property with earnings from her United Nations missions.
“It is mine, my property; me and my family, our property. If he [Ken Korankye] didn’t see the need to talk to me... then why should I even talk to him after he’s gone down town. He’s now in the public domain,” she said.
The publisher of the newspaper Ken Korankye says he is unfazed by the threats of a legal suit.
“It’s her constitutional right. She has the right to rejoinder. First and foremost we did the professional thing by speaking to her...If she goes to court, we shall be quite prepared to meet her in court, to meet her boot for boot,” he said.
According to him, the paper had earlier spoken to Mrs Atinga who said she built her house using proceeds from commercial vehicles she runs.
Mrs Atinga took office as Greater Accra Regional Police Commander few months ago and has been hard on armed robbers and other criminals in the city and its environs.
