A two- year-old boy in Kumasi could lose his right hand due to complications from an injury inflicted on him by his abusive caretakers.
A neighbour of the alleged abusive caretakers told Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor that the two-year-old boy’s hands were burnt with a hot electric iron.
Some of Samuel Kwarteng’s right fingers are motionless, according to doctors.
Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital say they will have to clip all the dead fingers to enable them perform plastic surgery to save the rest of the arm.
According the neighbour, Samuel Kwarteng incurred the wrath of the two caretakers when he went to eat in another neighbour’s home at North Suntreso.
Luv Fm's Erastus Asare Donkor reports that Samuel’s father handed him over to the caretakers, Nana Oti and Rita Oti, before travelling to Nigeria.
“The child has skin marks all over his body, but that perhaps is the least of his worries. His right hand, from the wrist to the fingers, is covered with a sore apparently from a burn that looks deteriorating”, Erastus reports.
Nana and Oti had been hiding the wound from the public, wrapping it constantly with pieces of cloth.
The couple has been picked up by police.
They told police the child accidentally dipped his hands in hot water, but neighbours say it is false.
