The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service says it has launched a full scale probe into the conduct of seven police officers filmed allegedly taking bribes in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigative video.
The officers are part more than 120 persons fingered in the scandal in which 34 judges have been implicated.
Inspector General of Police Mohammed Alhassan told Joy News the officers were interdicted following receipt of official petition from Tiger Eye PI, a private investigation firm operated by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
He would not name the officers involved but said a service enquiry would be instituted alongside the investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department.
Anas stepping out of court
Mr. Mohammed Alhassan also refrained from mentioning the kind of punishment the seven officers are likely to face when found culpable.
“You don’t want me to prejudice anything, the enquiry and the Criminal Investigations Department will determine what offence or crime has been committed and the appropriate punishment are prescribed by law,” he stated.
Meanwhile, most of the judges caught in the “shameful” film allegedly taking bribe are in court to stop a committee set up by the Chief Justice Georgina Wood to probe their misconduct.
After a failed attempts by some of the judges to also prevent the screening of the video, the court today dismissed as frivolous a contempt case brought against Anas and some individuals.
