Daniel Doudo, a 65-year-old farmer, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Asamankese Circuit court, charged with having sexual relations with his daughter.
The court was told that as a result of the act, the 17-year-old girl is now four months pregnant.
Duodu pleaded not guilty to incest and was remanded in prison custody until March 8.
Police Detective Inspector, R. K. Yeboah, told the court that, Duodu lived with the daughter and her mother in the same house at Asuboi.
He said about five months ago, the Junior High School girl told her school teachers that the father had sexual intercourse with her, when the mother travelled.
The girl made other reports of sexual abuse by the father to the teachers.
The prosecutor said the teachers informed the chief, the assembly member and the unit committee about the case but when Duodu was called before the chief, he denied the allegation.
Inspector Yeboah said subsequently the girl stopped schooling and the headmaster and teachers of her school made a follow-up to her house to find out why.
She told them that she was pregnant and that her father was responsible.
The teachers together with the assembly member and the unit committee went to the Suhum Social Welfare Office to report the case.
On February 16, officials of the Social Welfare and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice went to the Suhum Police station and reported the case.
The police then arrested Duodu, who in his caution statement denied the offence and rather named one Kwasi Larbi as responsible for his daughter's pregnancy.
The District Commander then invited the girl, who during interrogation, insisted that her pregnancy was the result of his sexual relations with her father.Source: GNA
