The Managing Editor of the Enquirer newspaper, Raymond Archer has been convicted of contempt over his newspaper's account of court proceedings in the ongoing trial of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Akwasi Osei Adjei over some rice imports.
The High Court consequently ordered a retraction of the publication and a publication of an apology to the court and parties involved in the litigation. The retraction and apology are to be published in the next edition of the Enquirer on Friday.
On the phone to Raymond Archer, he told Myjoyonline.com that the publication complained of and concluded by the trial judge to be in clear contempt of the court, was a court correspondent’s account of the trial but he as editor, accepts full responsibility for the offence and will render an unqualified apology in the next edition of the paper.
The court also imposed a bail term of GH¢50,000 on the editor, pending his compliance with the order on Friday.
Akwasi Osei Adjei, who served under the Kufuor administration, is on trial by the state for his alleged role in the importation of some 300,000 bags of rice from India which arrived in the country in 2009.
