A storm that began as a whirl wind on Thursday swept through the Zongo section of Wa destroying properties worth millions of Ghana cedis. The freaky storm that lasted for about five minutes ripped off the roofs of five compound houses, a mosque, electricity poles and cables. When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the area, live electricity cables were strewn all over the path of the storm while mangled roofing sheets were hanging loosely on the destroyed buildings. Many people, who spoke to the GNA, were amazed by the level of destruction because there were no clouds or signs of any rain to suggest that a stormy weather was in the offing.Mr Hudu Abdul-Salam, an eye witness, who was in his room at the time of the incident told the GNA that when he heard the sound of the wind, he rushed out only to see roofing sheets flying all over the buildings."Within five minutes, I saw a trail of destruction that did not match the magnitude of the storm, which took off like a whirlwind," he said.Officials of the Wa Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organization later arrived at the scene to assess the extent of damage and see what form of assistance could be given to those who had been rendered homeless.Source: GNA
