Youths in Politics Foundation, Ghana, (YPF), a non-partisan, non Governmental Organization, has called on the youth of political parties to be circumspect in their utterances in order to guard and sustain the country's fledging democracy.
"Though we do encourage the youth to engage in active politics, we think they need to be mindful of their language when they engage in political discussions and debates, no matter the platform they use," a statement signed by Mr. Fred Sarpong, President of the Foundation said on Sunday.
The statement described the "Nana Darkwa Saga" as unfortunate but called on the government, political parties, the judiciary and the media to exercise restraint in dealing with the issue.
Nana Darkwa, a 27-year old New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist was placed in custody by a circuit court after he was alleged to have accused ex-President Jerry John Rawlings on an Accra FM station, of setting fire to his own apartment.
The Minority in parliament walked out of parliament on Friday 19th February this year, in protest of the arrest of Nana Darkwa but the group called off the boycott on Tuesday February 23, following the release of the NPP sympathizer.
Darkwa was remanded for two weeks by a circuit court on Thursday but that decision was overturned by the High court the following day.Source: GNA
