Former First Couple, Mr and Mrs Rawlings and their three daughters were in church on Sunday, apparently, to thank God for their escape of death in the infamous inferno that gutted their Ridge residence. The incident occurred on Valentine’s Day, 14th February, 2010 and the fire was blamed on an electrical fault. The family of five, excluding the only son, Kimati, joined the congregation at the Christian Action Faith Ministry where they praised God for saving their lives. Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng, who was at the church, reported that for many in the congregation, especially first time visitors, it was a pleasant surprise to see the Rawlingses. For regular members, however, Mr Rawlings’ presence was nothing new because he is an occasional visitor to the church. The members of the entourage that followed the former First Family to the church including Nana Konadu’s mother, Prampram MP E.T. Mensah, ministers of state as well as some National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives, were all dressed in white attire. The church, led by founder Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, said a special prayer for the Former First family. The first child of the former First Couple, Dr. Ezenator Rawlings, was grateful to God that there wasn’t any casualty during the 14th February inferno. Also present was Mr. Rawlings’ friend, a mortuary attendant at the 37 Military Hospital, known as Atta, who became the talk of town after the NDC’s Tamale congress last month. The congregation went agog when Mr. Rawlings introduced him. And probably for the very first time former President Rawlings revealed in public what excites him. According to him, it is music. He was so moved by the song ministration he could not hide his admiration for the female choir conductor who he praised for singing so well. Meanwhile, Joy News can confirm that government has yet to find an alternative accommodation for the Rawlingses, three weeks after fire forced them out of their residence.
