President John Evans Atta has appealed to the Confederation of African Football to lift the ban imposed on the Togo national team.
CAF slapped a four-year ban on Togo following their decision to pull out of the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations after gun attacks on their team en route to the tournament.
President Mills launched the appeal after meeting with CAF President Issa Hayatou ahead of tomorrow’s Glo CAF Awards at the State House.
President Mills is keen to ensuring Togo are re-admitted by the continent’s governing football body, Joy News has learnt.
“At the last meeting of ECOWAS heads of state, we made an appeal to CAF to reconsider the punishment that had been imposed on Togo and I’m not aware whether any response has been given to our appeal. If not, I would want to renew on a personal basis [for you] to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Togo and Ghana will support CAF in all your initiatives.
“And I want to assure that we are going to make CAF proud during the world cup tournament in South Africa,” President Mills said, triggering intense applause from the audience.
