The New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspiring parliamentary candidates for La Dadekotopon, have been formerly introduced to party supporters and delegates from the constituency, at La in Accra.
Mrs. Gladys Dedey Mann, the Chairperson of the constituency, said the introduction, which coincided with the formation of a five-man Screening Committee headed by Nii Obodai Gyinboye, was to enable aspirants to interact with the supporters and delegates.
She said the meeting was a unique one because it was the first time, "we have gathered in this manner."
Mrs. Mann said the Committee would grill the aspirants to enable the NPP have good, marketable and winnable candidates to contest the parliamentary elections in 2008.
She said that even though the party's constitution did not define who a delegate is, by convention the party had adopted polling station chairmen as delegates for that purpose.
Mrs Mann explained that article 36 (iii) (c) of the party's constitution stipulates that a delegate must be a registered member and of good standing
and advised the aspirants to engaged in clean campaign devoid of insults.
She asked the delegates not to allow aspirants to influence them with money instead they should critically assess the potential candidates.
The aspirants, Mr Oscar Odoi Glover, a business executive, Dr. Francis A. Sowah, a lawyer, Mr. Godfried Ako-Nai, former Member of Parliament for the constituency, Miss Banny Brown, former Assemblywoman for Kaajaano Electoral Area and Mr James Akrong, Accountant, addressed the gathering.
