The Tema Circuit Court 'A,' on Monday fined a sales executive GH¢5,000, for issuing two dud cheques as payment for computers and their accessories.
In default, the convict Kofi Adzanku would serve two years imprisonment in hard labour.
Adzanku is also to refund GH¢8,000 to the complainant after paying the
fine or serving the sentence.
The court presided over by Mrs Laurenda Owusu acquitted and discharged
Adzanku on the first count of defrauding by false pretences but convicted him on the second count of issuing dud cheques.
Adzanku pleaded not guilty to the two counts when he first appeared
before the court on December 12, 2005.
Chief Inspector Matilda Tetteh told the court that on September 16, 2005, Adzanku approached the complainant and introduced himself as a sales executive who wanted some computers and accessories to be delivered to some District Assemblies in the Northern Region.
The complainant released the items worth GH¢ 8,027.75 to the convict
after he promised to pay within two weeks.
Adzanku issued two Standard Chartered Bank cheques with the total face
value of GH¢6,288 on October 05 and October 10, 2005, to be cashed at the Opeibea branch of the bank but were dishonoured.
