Curfew imposed on Bawku, one lynched

A curfew has been re-imposed on Bawku and its surrounding areas. The measure was necessitated by lynching of a man and sporadic gunshots Thursday morning that injuring two people who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The Upper East Regional Minister Mr Mark Wayongo confirming the curfew to Joy News’ Steve Anti said “because of the tension in town the (Regional Security Council) has recommended that the curfew take immediate effect so that the security agencies can take control of the situation.” He said while the curfew period was harsh, “the situation demands it.” Asked what was being done to foster sustainable peace in the volatile area, the Regional Minister said stakeholders such as the Northern Development Forum, we are going to involve NGOs in the search for peace in Bawku.” Source: Joy News
