A fetish priestess facing trial at the Kade District Magistrate's Court for defrauding a woman of GH¢ 4,700 with the promise to cure her sister of a mental problem has refunded GH¢ 2,300 to the police.
The court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, asked the police to keep the money in the meantime.
Florence Ammo, also known as Nana Baakai and Appeawaa, had pleaded not guilty at an earlier sitting of the court.
She was on January 4 taken into police custody for the offence of defrauding by false pretence and granted a GH¢ 6,000 bail.
She went into hiding and six persons who stood surety for her were asked to produce her.
The priestess was recently re-arrested.
The case for the prosecution was that during the month of November last, the priestess, with intent to defraud, did obtain from the plaintiff Dorcas Ohene-Tutu, cash of GH¢ 4,700 on the pretext that she could cure her sister of mental sickness.
After collecting the money, Florence went into hiding.
The court remanded her in prison custody until April 20, 2010.
