Some butchers in Salaga in the Northern Region have declared war on Fulani herdsmen who allegedly killed two of their colleagues. The butchers say they are determined to avenge the death of their colleagues by undertaking operation-search-and-kill on Fulani herdsmen operating in the area. They are claiming that the victims, Alhassan Gado, 27, and Suleiman Muntaka, 21, were murdered by Fulani herdsmen – currently on the run - on Tuesday when the two went to buy cows for their business. The angry butchers told Joy News the police were slow in acting on the murders. One of them, Baba Adamu, told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh, the Fulanis must have falsely accused the murdered butchers of cattle rustling. The Northern Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, confirming the killings to Joy News, said investigations were underway to apprehend the culprits. He warned the butchers against taking the law into their hands and engaging in indiscriminate killing of Fulani herdsmen. Such an action, he said, will be criminal and will attract the necessary punitive measures.
