The Christian Council of Ghana is encouraging strong mass public protest against irresponsible language and use of negative images in the media. The council says it is appalled by what appears to be the lack of self censorship by the media, adding, the trend is destroying the moral fibre of society. General Secretary of the Christian Council, Rev. Dr. Fred Degbe, said “it’s about time we had some level of citizenry reaction against some of these things.” He said the media must thoroughly filter their content to ensure what they put out is wholesome and not “fragrant pornography.” The Christian Council’s call comes in the wake of similar concerns by the Scripture Union (SU) of Ghana. Rev Dedge says authorities must also strictly enforce laws regulating the media. “They media must not be left off the hook just like that; they have a responsibility towards the nation. People are listening, people vulnerable, people are gullible,” he said. Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
