The Gonja Traditional Council in the Northern Region has declared its intention to deskin the Buipe-Wura, Mahama Abdulai Jinapor. The Council is accusing the Buipe-Wura of insubordination and gross disrespect. The decision was reached at an emergency meeting Thursday night. The meeting was predicated on an inconclusive yet rancorous 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the traditional council which was to discuss matters affecting the area’s development. On the agenda of the meeting was the deskinment of the Mono-Wura, Akwasi Piesie, by the Buipe Wura. The overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbon-Wura Tuntunba Borisa Sulemana Jakpa II, together with other chiefs in the area, appealed to Abdulai Jinapor to rescind his decision to deskin the Mono-Wura. But the Buipe-Wura would not budge, arguing the Mono-Wura sacrilegiously refused to pay homage to him as custom demands. The mediation talks turned into a bitter disagreement resulting in hot verbal exchanges between the Buipe-Wura and his loyalists on one hand, and the Yagbon-Wura and the other chiefs and their supporters on the other. According to the statement issued by the Gonja Traditional Council made available to Joy FM's Northern Regional Correpondent, Mahama Shaibu, the Buipe-Wura insulted the other chiefs, audaciously pulled a pistol and his bodyguard cocked his gun in the face of the traditional leaders. The statement, signed by the Yagbon-Wura and 12 other paramount chiefs, said the heretic arrogance of Buipe-Wura, Abdulai Jinapor cannot be condoned and that he cannot be allowed to continue to perform traditional leadership roles.
