A sub-chief at Ejura, Nana Diasempa Antwi Obugyei II, is personally sponsoring the construction of a four-unit flat containing two bedrooms each, for the local personnel of the Ghana Police Service at the cost of GH¢60,000.
He had also donated computers and accessories together with office furniture to the service.
The ceremony to mark formal commencement of works on the project was performed at the weekend by Nana Kwaku Sarfo II, the Ejurahene.
Nana Obugyei, who is the Krontihene of the town, said the project would be ready for occupation by December this year.
He said it was his contribution towards helping to create the right environment to motivate the police to work.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Henry Bacho, District Police Commander, said it was a welcoming relief to the personnel of the service, who are grappling with severe accommodation problem.
The two block of houses for the Ejura police was built in 1954 and had since not seen any renovation leading to gaping cracks on the walls, while the roof is leaking badly.
DSP Bacho said Ejura being a thriving commercial town holds some attraction for criminals and it was therefore important to create more space to allow for the deployment of adequate numbers of police personnel to provide security.
Police Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro Kwateng, Asante-Mampong Divisional Commander, and the Ejura-Sekyeredumase District Chief Executive, Madam Martha Bruckner, took turns to praise Nana Obugyei for the gesture.
They encouraged other public-spirited individuals and groups to emulate the example.
Chief Superintendent Kwarteng used the occasion to appeal to the public to give information on criminals to help the fight to bring down crime in the area.
