A music instructor at the Great Lamptey Mills School who had sexual intercourse with a nine-year-old pupil of the school has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court, on a charge of defilement. The convict, according to the prosecution, usually had sex with the victim in the school toilet, after class. A medical report presented to the court indicated that the victim had been defiled. Although the convict, Gideon Nana Offei Dodoo, pleaded not guilty to the charge, he was found culpable of the offence by the court presided over by Mrs. Georgina Mensah Datsa. The court noted that the prosecution, led by ASP Sarah Acquah, was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. Before he was handed his jailed term, counsel for Mr. Dodoo prayed the court for a minimum sentence as he was a first-time offender. The court, after submission by counsel, sentenced him accordingly.Facts in Court states that the complainant, Veronica Teiku, is a petty trader who lives at Ofankor with her daughter, a pupil of Lamptey Mills School, while the convict is a teacher in the same school and also lives at Lartebiokorshie.According to ASP Sarah Acquah, between September 2009 and March 2010, the complainant noticed some changes in the movement of the victim and when she questioned her, the victim disclosed that the convict had been having sexual intercourse with her at the school toilet, after class. With this information, the complainant reported the matter to the Tesano Police, who issued her with a police medical report form to send the victim to the hospital for treatment.Later, a report was submitted on her. The accused was subsequently arrested and the case was transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Police Service.
