The First Lady Ernestina Naadu Mills has described as mere speculation suggestions that Nigerian evangelist Prophet T.B. Joshua is a key adviser to President Mills.
According to her, those who criticise the relationship of the two are ill-informed.
Mrs Naadu Mills said this during an interview with the BBC as part of a series of interviews with some selected first ladies in Africa.
The wife of the President said though she has never met with T.B. Joshua, unlike her husband, she believes he is a man endowed by God.
“Are these people always with my husband and T.B. Joshua? I mean it’s speculation. But if for example, I feel like seeing a particular preacher in America and I make it a point of going to their church, what’s wrong with it?” she quizzed.
“Why not in Africa? Who and who were there when T.B. Joshua advised President Mills or who and who were there when Professor Mills travelled to Nigeria to seek advise from T. B. Joshua?”
President Mills’ relationship with T.B. Joshua, the head pastor of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, generated headlines soon after the president had assumed power during which time media reports suggested he was convalescing from an ailment.
In the interview in which she talks about her passion for dogs and praises her husband’s culinary skills, Mrs Mills said critics of the President should exercise some restraint.
“It hurts, especially when whatever is done is given the wrong interpretation. You see sitting in the armchair is not the same as holding the steering wheel,” she indicated.
“…let’s give this new president the chance to do or put into effect what ideas he has. He’s not taking Ghana anywhere; he wants the best for Ghana. We all should contribute to it.
