A Circuit Court at Mpraeso presided over by Mr. Alex Owusu Ofori has sentenced a 27-year-old barber to eight years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 15-year-old girl at Maame Krobo, a farming community.
The barber, Emmanuel Asare, pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Detective Police Inspector Christian Apronti, told the court that the victim arrived from Damongo in the Northern Region to stay with her grandmother two months ago at Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains.
He said one early morning, the victim was sent to a farm to fetch firewood and on her way, Asare called her in front of his house and gave her money to purchase some items for him.
The prosecutor said when the victim returned with the items, Asare directed her to send them into his room.
No sooner had the girl entered the room than Asare followed and closed the door.He started fondling her breast and genitals.
The prosecutor said when the victim started shouting; the convict increased the volume of his radio set to prevent people from hearing her voice.
The victim, who could not walk properly after the sexual assault, bled profusely but managed to get home and informed her grandmother and uncle who reported the case to a Police Patrol Team to arrest Asare.
The minor was rushed to the Ekye Amanfrom Presbyterian clinic for treatment and later referred to the Donkorkrom hospital where she was admitted for further treatment.
A medical examination conducted on her proved she had been defiled.Source: GNA
