Lawyer and women’s rights advocate Ursula Owusu is urging head of the Ashanti Regional National Health Insurance Scheme to step aside until investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against him have been completed.Yamoah Ponkoh is accused of making sexual overtures at one of his subordinates, a national service person, an allegation he has denied. However, a recorded telephone conversation played on Joy FM and other radio stations captures the voice of a man said to be Yamoah Ponkoh seeking illicit relationship with the service personnel.
Ursula Owusu told Joy News' Bernard Saibu on Top Story that it is unacceptable for ladies to be used as sexual objects in their work places. She advised the victim to lodge a formal complaint at the offices of the NHIS and the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative for thorough investigations to be conducted into the matter. In the meantime it will be in the interest of Yamoah Ponkoh to step aside for investigations to be conducted, she noted. The ladies at the Ashanti Regional office of the NHIS need a conducive environment to operate, she added.Yamoah Ponkoh has been cautioned by authorities of the NHIS and expressly asked to sever all kinds of cozy relationship with the lady. The lady, known only as Alberta, has meanwhile been transferred to the Bantama scheme office.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
