Africa football legend Kalusha Bwalya believes Ghana is the best placed team among the African contingent to excel at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The Black Stars fantastic showing at the African Cup of Nations in Angola under master tactician Milovan Rajevac even though eight key players were absent makes the Zambia administrator think very highly of the Black Stars.
With several players missing the Nations Cup in January, they managed to reach the final and now with all the key players returning Ghana is tipped among the countries to do well.
The former Zambian international Bwalya is eagerly anticipating the upcoming 2010 World Cup and the 46-year-old has high expectations of the African teams participating in South Africa especially Ghana.
“African teams are in a different and better position than previous tournaments, and I think we are better prepared,” Bwalya said.
“We do have the confidence and experience, and I believe our teams now believe they can achieve success at this level.
“I think Ghana have been the most consistent team from Africa, and they are favourites at the moment. Ivory Coast are a world class team, and they have some of the top players currently playing for big teams in Europe.
“The South Africa side is not a bad team at all, and I think they showed that during the Confederations Cup. They have some good individual players. A number of other teams have impressed me.
“Cameroon remain a good, solid side. A lot has been said about them, but they are a good side. Nigeria have also been good, even though they have not got the results at times.”
Ghana will meet Serbia, Australia and Germany in the group phase of the tournament.
