A thirteen-member committee to oversee the organisation of the 2010 Population and Housing Census in the Gomoa West area has been inaugurated.
Mr Kwame Oppong, Central Regional Coordinating Director, who performed the function, charged Ghanaians to help produce a credible Population and Housing Census which could give the nation a reliable data to facilitate development planning.
He noted that the unavailability of reliable data on national, district and community population had been the bane of the nation's development since things were planned in abstract.
Mr Oppong charged District Assemblies to provide places for the storage of census information and to provide transport for the exercise in their Districts.
They must also ensure that adequate publicity was given on the census.
He asked the Committee which was made up of heads of departments to work hard to ensure the success of the exercise in the area.
The Regional Coordinator advised the Committee to break into smaller sub-committees so that the job description of members can be clearly spelt out.
He urged the Committee to manage resources provided for the exercise judiciously.
Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, District Chief Executive, said the District Assembly would benefit more from the census, and would, therefore, ensure that the District produced credible data.
Mr Peter Antwi Boasiako, District Coordinating Director, pledged that the Committee would live up to its expectation.
