Two British female students have been killed in a road accident in north-eastern South Africa, according to emergency services. At least 18 other people were injured in the crash east of Johannesburg, near Nelspruit, which is one of the nine host cities for the World Cup tournament. It is thought that all the injured are British and Canadian tourists. It is not known if they are football fans. Four are critically injured and have been taken to hospital. Fourteen others are being treated for minor injuries, South African ambulance service ER 24, said. 'Swerved and overturned' According to local reports the truck swerved and overturned on a road near Nelspruit. Local reporters said some of the injured were trapped under the truck for a period of time. BBC correspondent Karen Allen, in South Africa, said: "They were near Nelspruit, which of course is one of the sites of the football World Cup matches, between Honduras and Chile on 16 June. "[But] it's not at all clear whether they were actually football fans, or whether they were among the large numbers of tourists who come to South Africa anyway." Source: BBC
