The Madina District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police David Eklu has expressed concern about the lynching of suspected armed robbers at Ogbojo, a suburb of Madina.
Ch/Supt Eklu who was speaking at a community safety forum at Ogbojo said any person who had fallen foul of the law should be arrested and handed over to the police.
He said often armed robbers were attracted by expensive clothing, jewellery, mobile phones, and laptops, which have ready markets.
The District Commander asked the public to inscribe their names on their property in order to identify stolen goods that have been retrieved by the police.
Ch/Supt Eklu said in the advent of armed robbery the victims or sympathisers should call the police on (MTN) 18555 or 191 for swift action.
He said through community vigilance the menace of armed robbery could be reduced to the minimum, citing Madina Zongo as example.
Ch/Supt Eklu said the police has a rewarding scheme for people who report crime, which attracts a minimum of 2,000 Ghana cedis especially when notorious criminals have been apprehended.
He promised that the identity of informants would be kept secret.
"The public must assist the police to get rid of the nocturnal monsters," he said.
He suggested the need for people to fix strong and durable locks to prevent easy breakthrough by robbers.
Ch/Supt Eklu expressed gratitude to the Chief of Ogbojo, Nii Torgbor Obodai II for assisting the Madina police with a vehicle valued at 8,000 Ghana Cedis and a refurbished Police Post costing 15,000 Ghana Cedis.
The Madina Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ebenezer Boryor asked the public to endeavour to settle at home the trivial cases they report to the police.
