Police in Eastern region have arrested a 40-year-old man who attempted to butcher a 19-year-old Junior High School student for refusing him sex.
The suspect Kwaku Manu was arrested yesterday by the police.
The victim, Mabel Okyere is a JHS one pupil at Ellen White Basic School. She is still on admission at the Koforidua Regional Hospital.
The grandmother of the victim Maame Ama Kyerewaa explained the circumstances under which the victim was attacked.
According to her whilst sleeping at night she heard the screaming voice of her grand-daughter appealing for help.
When she arrived on the scene she saw the suspect inflicting machete wounds on her grand-daughter but she gathered courage to intervene.
She said the suspect Kweku Manu then escaped from her grips and fled.
Describing the extent of the victim's injuries, Maame Kyerewaa said the suspect hacked the back of Mabel’s neck, her knee, her face and some other parts of her body.
According to her the suspect had professed love for the victim on several occasions but was turned down.
She could not fathom why he decided to attack her this time around.
The victim, who gave birth at age 15 is responding to treatment.
