Upper West regional minister, Amin Amidu Sulemani, has appealed to the people of the Upper West region not to do anything untoward that will derail the peace of the country.
Speaking at the 59th Independence Day parade at the Naa Sidiki Bomi II Park, he stated that peace and development are bedfellows and cannot be separated.
Sulemani added that where there is no peace there is no development.

Seven officers, 160 men and women drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana National Fire service, Ghana Immigration Service and Customs Exercise and Preventive Service of the Ghana Revenue Authority took part in the match past under the command of Asp Benjamin Mensah Bortey.

According to Joy News' Rafiq Salam reporting from Wa, they were joined by over 1900 pupils from basic and second cycle schools with some voluntary organizations including members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) ladies.

Also, supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) were on hand for the celebration.
The security services first treated the audience to slow match before going for the quick match.

Prizes were given to the schools and cadets that excelled in the march. Ancilla Primary School and Community Development and Vocational School came up tops in the basic and second high schools category respectively.

Wa School for the Blind placed first in the special school category.
