Wa Methodist School for the Blind surprised everyone at this year’s Independence Day celebration when they placed first in the special school category.  

The visually impaired pupils of Wa Methodist School for the Blind marched through the parade ground unaided thereby winning the hearts of all participants at the parade ground.

Three special schools namely; the School for the Deaf, St. Don Bosco School and the Wa Methodist School for the Blind took part in the march past at the Naa Sidiki Bomi II Park in Wa.

Participants of the Independence Day celebration went agog upon seeing the three special schools taken part in the celebration.  

Joy News’ Rafiq Salam reports that in the case of the Wa School for the Deaf, even though their hearing was impaired they marched with the confidence of army officers.

Third-placed St. Don Bosco Special School, who are mentally challenged pupils, marched to show to all that given the needed support they could grow and become responsible citizens of the country.

A contingent of 160 men and women drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service and Customs Exercise and Preventive Service of the Ghana Revenue Authority took part in the match under the command of Asp Benjamin Mensah Bortey.

They were joined by 1900 pupils from basic, second cycle schools and some voluntary organizations.

Prizes were also given to the basic, second cycle schools and the cadets that excelled in the march. 

Ancilla Primary School placed first in the basic school category followed by Wa T.I. Ahmadiyya Primary School with St. Baptist placing third.

In the junior high school category, St. Francis International School was first, Our Home International School placed second whilst Nuruya E/A JHS came third.

Wa Community development and vocational school came first in the senior high school category, St. Francis Xavier Seminary and Wa Unique T.I.Ahmadyya Senior High School placed second and third respectively
