Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Ebo Barton-Oduro, has served notice that the pair of Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby and Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani have not been acquitted of causing financial loss charges and that the state will appeal against their discharge by the High Court Tuesday and get them prosecuted.Wereko-Brobby, CEO of the erstwhile Ghana at 50 Secretariat that supervised the day-to-day administration of activities planned for the anniversary of Ghana's 50th independence anniversary and Mpiani, former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration and Chairman of the anniversary planning committee were charged by the state following findings of a commission of inquiry and put before court.State prosecutors accused the two of deliberately over-spending in excess of what was approved by Parliament as well as contracting loans without approval from parliament. But Justice Samuel Marfo-Sau on Tuesday struck out the charges and discharged them, saying that it was unconstitutional and wrong for the Attorney-General to prosecute the accused on the basis of adverse findings made by a commission of enquiry. However, on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen a while ago, Mr. Barton-Oduro said the two men have not been acquitted of the charges, contrary to earlier reports. He said the court has not even entered into the merits or otherwise of the case and could not have acquitted the accused persons. He said the A-G's office was yet to obtain a certified copy of the ruling but assured that the case was far from over, assuring that the state intends to appeal against the ruling and seek their prosecution.Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
