A boy had dropped a Nintendo Game Boy into the animal's area at a zoo in San Francisco.
The giant ape picked up the device and seemed to take to it immediately.
Keepers at the zoo finally managed to coax the animal away from the Game Boy with a tasty apple.
A photographer who captured the events, Chris Spicuzza said: "He was trying to figure it out and flipped it around.
"It wasn't long before the little gorilla wanted to see what it was.
"Of course, the little guy thought he could do a better job and figure it out. Kids, you know.
"The little boy got his game system back and it still worked."
