The prosecutor in the trial of the murder of the Ya-Na Rex Owiredu has objected to the trial judge Anthony Oppong presiding over the case.
The prosecutor said he does not trust the trial judge to be impartial in the matter.
Mr Oppong has advised the prosecution to file a formal application stating reasons for the concerns.
Mr Owiredu raised the objection when the case was called at the Fast Track High Court Monday in Accra.
Defence lawyers say they are at a loss as to why the prosecution is objecting to Mr Oppong sitting on the case.
A member of the defence team, Mr Atta Akyea told Joy News’ Cyrus de Graft Johnson after the case was adjourned that the defence was however undaunted.
“I find it very, very weird that the state wants justice and they probably want to choose who their judge should be but we will leave it, when the motion is properly tabled we will be able to argue it.”
He assured that “when we receive the full application and we see that there are no good grounds we will file an affidavit in opposition and come and argue the law bore the judge.”
