The Ministry of Tourism Tuesday began its mid-year review meeting at Akosombo. The three-day meeting, which will end on August 19, is aimed at reviewing the performance of the Ministry for the first half of the year.Issues to be looked at during the three-day meeting which will be opened by Tourism Minister, Mrs. Sabah Zita Okaikoi, include the financial performance of the Ministry, the performance of agencies like the Ghana Tourist Board and the Ghana Tourism Development Agency, outstanding programs and activities for the next half of the year, inputs for new programmes and projects for consideration into the 2011 budget and the finalization of the Tourism Sector Medium Term Development Plan.For the 2011 budget the Ministry hopes to include the establishment of Tourism Mission Offices for the promotion of Tourism activities in other countries, preparation for next year’s PANAFEST and Emancipation Day celebrations and marketing of Ghana’s Tourism potentials on the international market as part of its major programs for 2011.For the rest of the year and subsequently next year the Ministry hopes to encourage the establishment of Tourism clubs in second cycle and tertiary institutions, churches and other social groups and also organize a training workshop for commercial drivers across the country.The Ministry together with its agencies during the first half of the year organized programs like the Independent Day Family Fun Day at the Aburi Botanical Gardens with the aim of promoting domestic tourism, Kwahu 2010 Easter paragliding festival, the Tourism Investment Forum, the Emancipation 2010 and the commissioning of a series of library projects in the Greater Accra Metropolis.
