Some members of the Senior Staff Association of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KOSSA) have given the authorities an ultimatum to reinstate their President, Charles Offei-Palm.
“We find this interdiction very unfortunate…it doesn’t auger well for the good running of the hospital and we deem it fit to write this letter (to demand his reinstatement),” the General Secretary of KOSSA, James Oblitey stated while delivering a letter to the hospital authorities.
Mr Offei-Palm was interdicted by management of the hospital last week for granting an interview to an Accra based Class FM.
According to the General Secretary of KOSSA, James Oblitey, the association called for a meeting between the hospital authorities and the association but did not get a response from the management.
They embarked on a demonstration Monday, April 4, to present another letter to management over the matter.
Dr Offei-Palm accused the CEO of Korle-Bu, Dr Gilbert Buckle of being the brain behind his interdiction.
“Let me make this clear to Ghanaians, the board did not take that decision. It was a unilateral decision by the CEO and the Board Chairman and was forced on the Director of human resource to sign,” Dr Offei claimed.
He believes he is being intimidated because of his outspokenness. “Instead of development, they are using all those monies to do other things…create, loot and share and then when you speak about it to prevent the deaths that we are seeing - people are dying because of lack of oxygen, we using parasafe [chemical] to disinfect medical equipment - you instruct our removal,” Dr Offei asserted.
But the management of the hospital claims Dr Offei failed to seek approval for the said interview and made false claims.
The Deputy Director of Administration, Kambarin Kombian assured the aggrieved staff that “something will be done about the concerns they have raised.”
But he added that the management cannot go by the 48-hour directive given by the association.
He pleaded with the members of the Association to go back to work.
