Luis Suarez scored twice as Barcelona came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, although the match might have finished very different had Fernando Torres kept his discipline.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker had given his side a 1-0 lead at the Camp Nou only to be shown two quick-fire yellow cards for a couple of foolish tackles, leaving Diego Simeone’s team down a man in the quarter-final first leg.
Atletico defended stubbornly despite their numerical disadvantage but were eventually broken down by Barcelona’s formidable frontline, with Suarez scoring two second half goals to give the Catalans a narrow lead ahead of the return leg at the Vicente Calderon.
Suarez himself was perhaps fortunate to remain on the pitch following a kick-out and throat grab of Filipe Luis, with no less than 10 yellow cards show over the course of the feisty match. Ultimately, Simeone must have been thankful to have only suffered a single-goal defeat given the circumstances.
