Fake GH¢10 notes appear to be in circulation in the market.
The fake notes, which have the same serial numbers, are faded and lack some security features on the original currency.
They also look lighter and the water mark of Yaa Asaritewaa missing, but they have the same colour as the original GH¢10 note.
The police said they suspect a syndicate was using the cedi notes to transact high level business. They also use it to pay taxi drivers and buy food from restaurants, particularly within the Accra metropolis.
The Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul M.N Awini, who disclosed this to the Times yesterday, urged the public to look out for such fake currencies.
His advice led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man, Daniel Aryee, by the police on Wednesday, who used the fake note to buy food at a restaurant at Mamprobi in Accra.
ACP Awini said a similar note with the same serial number was allegedly used by the suspect and two others, on the run, to pay for a taxi fare.
He advised the public to be extra vigilant and look out for suspected fake currency dealers and report them to the police.
