A 23-year old lady has been arrested for attempting to smuggle dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp into the Kumasi Central Prisons.
Vida Anafo is alleged to have concealed the dried leaves in a polythene bag containing charcoal meant for an unidentified prison inmate.
Prison officers say they have been on the lookout since reports of narcotics trade in the prisons came to their attention.
Stephen Nti, Public Relations Officer of the Prisons Service told Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah that the officer on duty caused the arrest of the suspect after she suspiciously returned to visit an unidentified relative. She had been there 30 minutes earlier.
Vida will not disclose the source of the substance.
Mr. Nti said the prison officials will continue to use intelligence to clamp down on banned substances seeking their way into the cells.
