The Church cannot stay out of politics, says the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso.
“It is an anomaly to bring any dichotomy between the church and state. Whether a minister or not if they want to comment on national issues they must comment and be held responsible for what they say.
“The Church must be the conscience of the people, the conscience of the church members. The Church must be the spokesperson of God in society; the Church must be able to comment on national issues. Individuals may belong to parties and belong to the Church but Church as a church…all other associations must be part and parcel of the national-building process,” he said.
Rev. Frimpong-Manso’s comment comes after a suggestion by national chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress that the Chief Justice Theodoro Wood must purge the Judiciary.
The Presbyterian priest says politicians to stop interfering in the work of the Judiciary.
The church says although it is not happy with the high cost of seeking justice and delays in adjudication.
It will not countenance threats and intimidation directed at it to stay out of politics.
Rev. Frimpong-Manso adds that notwithstanding the church's position, "if things are not going right we can point it out to them."
