Torrential rains over the past few days have forced Burkinabe Authorities to open the spillways of the Bagre Dam to its limit.
They say they risk destroying the dam if they continue to control the spillage.
Already some farmlands have submerged and houses ravaged by flood waters from the dam.
There are fears of further destruction with the current spillage level.
Upper East Regional minister, Mark Woyongo says under the present circumstances very little can be done.
“It’s virtually a helpless one because there is not much we can do apart from sensitizing the people to stay clear of the river basin,” Mr Woyongo said.
