Rtd Captain Nkrabeah Effah Dartey, counsel for Abena Achia aka Julie Juu, yesterday pleaded with an Accra High Court to jail Grace Omaboe, David Dontoh and Amankwa Ampofo, the family head of Nana Bosomprah, the late actor and producer of Cantata, for burying the deceased producer in spite of a court injunction. He told the court presided over by Justice M. Iddrisu that they should be jailed to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to flout the rules of injunction, but failed to tell the court whether the above-named respondents were indeed served the injunction order. The contempt application was filed by Julie Juu against the television personalities and family head of the producer for burying her alleged late husband when she had sought an injunction order preventing anybody from having anything to do with the body till she was recognised as his wife. Counsel for Julie Juu, who only said he was sure that the respondents heard about the injunction due to the wide publicity given to it in the media, also stated that though he admired the three Akan drama personalities, he wanted them to be jailed for the said offence. The contempt application included the mortuary man of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who was said to have released the body to the respondents for burial.' The retired captain also alleged that Mr. Ampofo, according to an Accra-based newspaper, P&P, granted an interview which seemed to suggest that he was aware of the injunction so he had no excuse for his action. The trial judge adjourned the case to September 2, 2010. Maame Dokooo, David Dontoh and Amankwa Ampofo, who were part of a 20-member funeral planning committee, have denied having buried the man as they are not family members, and are wondering why only the three of them should be singled out for a court action. They have denied going to the mortuary for the deceased's body, or ordering the release of his body, saying the deceased was the property of his family and they could not have decided when and how he should be buried. There was no drama yesterday as all the actors and actresses comported themselves well and Julie Juu, her family and sympathizers, quietly left the court's premises after proceedings. Confusion broke out on the last hearing date when a middle-aged woman, said to be Julie Juu's mother, invoked the curses of the Antoa god on anybody who spoke ill of her or Julie Juu, after an altercation between her daughter and supporters of the three leading members of the Obrah group. In the ensuing verbal brawl, someone from the group called her (Julie Juu's mother) a dirty woman and she moved closer to the woman and said "if you do not bath me today I swear Antoa Nyama would deal with you and everyone here who is insulting me and my daughter", prompting security officers at the court to call for order. Juile Juu's mother walked around the court premises, praying to Antoa to deal with her enemies while Maame Dokono, David Dontoh and Amankwa Ampofo tried calming down the rest of the group. All this while, Julie Juu, who was at the centre of the disagreement, kept her cool as she stayed in the courtroom to avoid a confrontation with anybody. She left in the company of her mother and sister after the police escorted them to a waiting taxi. Meanwhile, the late producer is said to have been married to a woman living in Germany with their three children for the past 30 years.
