Former Black Stars defender, John Paintsil has ruled out a return to play for a club in the Ghana Premier League.
Paintsil, who is without a club after his contract was rescinded by South African club Maritzburg United, believes the poor treatment handed out to his colleagues who returned to the Ghana league is the sole reason for making that decision.
Players such as Laryea Kingston, Godwin Attram, Dan Quaye and Baba Armando have all returned to the league after stints abroad in recent years.
And Paintsil is taking a cue from their perceived predicaments.
“When I came to Ghana at the end of last year, I granted interviews saying that I will be coming down to play for a local team before I hang my boots,” he told Joy Sports.
“But I am going to disappoint a few people or my fans because I am not going to do that anymore.”
“For me, I like to learn from experience. I started here and wanted to end here.”
“Some of my colleagues came down to play for local but they weren’t treated well so I don’t want to get myself into this position.”
“We have served the nation, we have done well so we need to keep that respect and continue where we have to continue to become somebody in future for the nation.”
“My senior colleagues who came to end their career in Ghana are not happy.”
Paintsil played for Berekum Arsenal and Liberty Professionals In the Ghana Premier League.
