The chiefs and elders of Abiriw in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern region have set up a scholarship scheme to support brilliant junior high school students who get admission into the various senior high schools.
According to the chiefs, the scholarship scheme will serve as an incentive to encourage brilliant but needy students to learn hard since they are the future leaders.
The Gyasehene of Abiriw, Nana Aboagye Gyabaa III, in an interview with Adom News said the scheme has been designed to help elevate the status of the people in the area.
They indicated that students who passed from the basic level don’t get admissions into the various Senior High Schools due to their poor performances but once the scholarship scheme is in place, the student will do better now.
He said the rate at which the students are failing at the basic level is so alarming and it’s affecting the community’s development but he believes that the scheme will motivate the students.
